The BME Mental Health Forum has now been running for 8 years with the aim of addressing inequalities across our Mental Health systems by re-orientating our approaches towards community-centred solutions.
Our aim is to tailor and coproduce services that are culturally sensitive and appropriate for the BME community. Our agenda for this year includes co-producing pledges made by the SWLSTG Mental Health Trust at the HOBV8 Conference:
-to work with schools
-raise cultural awareness amongst staff
-provide training on the challenges faced by Wandsworth’s diverse communities
-highlight the benefits of alternative therapies and activities, other than medication.
This is a formal network with a representative holding a seat on the Boroughs Mental Health Partnership Board.
Future forum meetings will be held on:
28th September 2017
16th November 2017
All meetings will be held at Balham Library, 16 Ramsden Rd, London SW12 8QY at 2:00pm till 4:00pm
The Forum is also an active member of the Wandsworth Clinical Reference Sub Group on BME Mental Health Inequalities.
A recent presentation on the work of this Group, by its Chair, Dr Tom Coffey, can be seen here: Wandsworth Mental Health Clinical Ref Group
